Tidal Pool Rings
Tidal Pool Rings

These rings are cast from direct impressions taken from the concrete walls of the Walpole Tidal Pool in Margate, the largest tidal pool in the UK and a Grade II listed structure. Each ring carries the texture of the pool itself: the pitting, wear, and salt-worn surface built up over decades of tide, weather, and use.
They form part of an ongoing practice-based body of work by my wife Dr Sé M. Nomyo, examining the pool as a site shaped by queerness and transness — its architecture porous, mutable, and shaped by tides, bodies, and social use. Since 2024, their research has taken shape through material, site-based practices at the pool: wax rubbings and watercolours made from collected seaweed, clay impressions blotted with seawater and ink, and prints taken from stones and shells found at the site. These rings sit within that same lineage of fieldwork, creating small, wearable fragments.
