The giving hand of the 'Pearlies'
The giving hand of the 'Pearlies'
Three ways via water: South China Sea, Indian Ocean , Suez Canal
Three water ways: Wastewater, stormwater, and drinking water
The arrival of a big cargo of pearl-buttons from Japan in the 1860's made its way to the street vendors of London... With one hand in the east and another in east London I give you The 'Pearlies'. A hand knotted pearl necklace - organic forms like strung teeth. A silver spiderweb clasp at the back and a flat silver hand swinging from the bottom engraved with symbols of its origin and its future. Hangs at 27cm... This really is a one off beauty. I think...
Every London borough has a Pearly family. They are all dedicated to charity and Harvest festival is sacred to Pearlies. thinks I didn't know about them until I was googling pearl buttons...
Feels apt to pair it with a web: As the spider teaches us balance – between past and future, physical and spiritual. She teaches us that everything we now do is weaving what we will encounter in the future. To me, her web is a symbol of perseverance, adaptability and creative strength.
P.S I also think this would look equally great with a huge black tourmaline hanging off it, the hand can slip out and be own on other necklaces you might have.
Mix n' match...
