A beautiful black tourmaline capped in sterling silver and slinging off a silver rollo chain. This a really solid tormaline, the thin shards found in most tourmalines are minimal on this one. It has a triple faceted bottom (whats not to love) and a really kool reverse bridge mini tourmaline jutting out - growing in the opposite direction, really mmmmmm satisfying. As autumn settles in, black tourmaline makes a fitting companion, grounding and steady, just as the season turns inward.
Black tourmaline is the go-to stone for protection - i often call it a psychic bodyguard. People have carried it for thousands of years, tucked into doorways, worn against the skin, set into rings and pendants, as something solid to hold onto when life feels uncertain. African, Indian, and Roman traditions all point to its protective use, and medieval alchemists believed it warded off evil influence. That reputation has barely changed today.
Calms anxiety: believed to settle racing thoughts and pull your attention back into your body, making it a popular choice during stressful or overwhelming periods.
Shields against outside energy: thought to stop you absorbing the mood of crowded or emotionally heavy spaces, which is why it's popular with empaths and anyone who works closely with people.
Eases screen fatigue: often reached for during long stretches of phone or computer use, it's simply a stone many like to keep close by.
Supports better sleep: its grounding nature is said to help quiet a busy mind, whether worn during the day or kept near the bed at night.
Helps hold emotional boundaries: associated with staying centred in yourself even when surrounded by other people's needs and emotions.
Schörl is an old German mining term, dating back to at least the 1400s, originally used for black tourmaline specifically before it became the standard name for the whole mineral family. It's still used today as the mineralogical name for the black variety. And a little nod to my german family.
