A small black tourmaline capped in sterling silver on a short sterling silver rollo chain and hanging off a star-studded shackle.

I think of black tourmaline as the elemental bodyguard, a powerhouse of cleansing energy that keeps you grounded, shields you from anxiety, and helps bring good luck and prosperity along the way. It's the go-to stone for protection, carried for thousands of years tucked into doorways, worn against the skin, and set into rings and pendants by people wanting something solid to hold onto through uncertain times. African, Indian, and Roman traditions all point to its protective use, and medieval alchemists believed it warded off evil influence, a reputation that's barely changed today.

As a little guy, I've named this piece Schörlchen, a playful German diminutive of Schörl, the old mining term for black tourmaline, meaning something like 'little black tourmaline.'
