A hand carved bronze Georgian-esque hand holding a purple amethyst crystal on a sterling hoop, suspended from a long vintage chain.
This is a small but stunning ombre amethst - very calming. Amethyst works across the emotional, spiritual, and physical to promote balance, peace, and patience. It can be helpful to releave anxiety, and is a wonderful stone if you want to delve deeper during meditations, to roam more levels of consciousness. This amulet is also a wonderful fidget piece; the crystal spins freely in what Tara calls its temple setting.
Named after Artemis, who roams the wilderness — unmarried, ahem — surrounded by her retinue of nymphs. Independent, private, and wholly in tune with nature, she is often depicted carrying a torch, and this amulet feels exactly like one: a beacon, quiet but sure.
The name amethyst comes from the Greek amethustos, meaning "non-drunk." In ancient Greece, cups were carved from the purple stone in the belief that drinking from them could prevent intoxication — we can certainly test that theory, though not with this piece. The origin of the stone itself is told in myth: Artemis transformed a mortal maiden named Amethystos into white quartz to protect her from the drunken rage of Dionysus. Remorseful, he poured wine over the statue, staining it purple — and so the amethyst was born, a symbol of purity and sobriety ever since.
The clenched bronze fist is inspired by Georgian artistry and symbolises strength, loyalty, and friendship.
