This large antique rolled gold Whitby jet fob (rare) amulet is paired with a Celtic Bronze Age coin, on a vintage sterling silver curb chain with a magnetic clasp.

Fossilized Araucaria wood, commonly called jet, is formed from the gradual compression of decomposed wood over millions of years. Jet can be discovered along the stunning North Yorkshire coastline. Whitby Jet fobs, highly prized for their deep black color and historical significance, possess distinct physical and aesthetic qualities, often featuring in Victorian mourning jewellery

Despite its dense appearance, it is very light and comfortable to wear. It is often considered a protective stone, believed to shield the wearer from negative energy, psychic attack, or harmful influences. It is thought to absorb and neutralise negativity, so it has historically been used as a spiritual defence in amulets, talismans, and jewellery. I really love it. I have on occasion carved into jet to make horns and the like, but whenever I see antique jet I’m on it!

The Celtic Bronze Age hoop dates back to around 700 BC, and were once used as a form of ancient currency. I’ve loved sourcing them through mudlarkers, collectors, and other guardians of history. This particular bronze ring, from the Celtic Iron Age, was found in the Midlands and comes from a Staffordshire collection, adding both authenticity and depth to the piece.

I've kept this piece simple, but I would highly recommend adding to this piece with your own talismanic choices! The fob itself is very light in weight.
